Pet him, stroke his fur -
look! he's purring so sweetly
rejoicing in the Present - Teach me! -
his animal nature is within us.
People have cats and dogs in exchange for human interaction. Pets are generally quite straightforward about their intentions. Their limited memories allow for a comforting way of forgiving too. I like cats and dogs too. Not only for their reliability/predictability (whether it's the cat's character or the dog's loyalty one likes more), but of course also the affection.
Obviously, I haven't got access to any cats or dogs here, well "access"... I must say that I seek for that pet's loyalty in the people I meet. And you do find that sometimes; I saw that exemplified, even here - last night, and my mind was instantly eased. Comfortable rest. It's ruthless when you think about it; the fading, time's destroying effect on threedimensional memory. In times of distress, it can be comforting, too.
here, puss, puss...
I keep thinking about a poem of mine now. I remember hiding my (now proven) schizofrenia in it, too.
ABOUT OUR CAT
I never told you this darling, facing facts
Is one of my bad points, that and my messy nature,
But I’ve told you about that.
So this may come as a surprise, like the time you told me
You ran over our cat; I forgave you because you told me,
That I had run over some cats too.
She told me everything, they call her Madame Geyser,
Probably ‘cause she spews hot truths about everyone.
I want your name tattooed on me. On my forehead!
But anyhow, she said I was happy: I wondered
How she could know that, I am happy! She said my hands
Smelt nice too; your lotion baby!
She saw something go wrong with me, no matter how hard I tried
To hit her, she wouldn’t say what would go wrong. Well,
People, I sure don’t understand them!
No matter what they say about me, nothing will go wrong!
Not with me, not with you, not with our new cat, not with us!
We are happy, you know!
Now what was it I was going to talk to you about?
